I always thought that Munich is a romantic city, even for those who already live here and are used to its beauty. The city offers from fancy to very simple ways of spending a romantic day with your lover. Whether you are a local or are just visiting, Munich will make you fall in love all over again, you just need to choose the right thing.
In order to help you decide what to do, I have made a small selection of romantic things to do in Munich especially for you. Some might not be what you are looking for, others might just be perfect for your romantic plans…
Gingerbread heart shaped
Those pretty gingerbread heart shaped are not famous only at the Oktoberfest or any other Bavarian Volksfest event. They are all over the city throughout the year, and are also a nice way to say “I love you” and “you mean a lot to me”, even the locals do it once in a while. They have different sizes and prices, the bigger the more expensive… the more love. Ohh, and don’t eat it, keep it!
Englischer Garten
The Englischer Garten is already romantic on its own, even more during the warmer seasons. Romantic activities here vary: walking, paddling, sitting on a bench, making a picnic, sitting at a biergarten by the water, you pick. Whatever you choose, the scenario is breathtaking.
Wander around old town
Munich’s old town is one of the most beautiful and romantic ones I have seen so far. Even for those living in the city, taking a little time to wander around its cobbled stoned streets without a care in the world is tempting, charming and romantic. For the first timers… just get lost, it is even better!
Olympiaberg
This little mountain is in the middle of the Olympia Park and it is a nice spot to sit on the grass and admire the city and the park from above. If it’s sunny, even better, take something to drink and just feel the sun warm up your faces. If you are looking for a nice place to watch the sun set, you just found it!
Romantic dinner with a view
Of course that a romantic dinner you can have anywhere in the world, in Munich too. The city offers great options for romantic dinners and what is even better: not only with great food but also with a view. Options may vary depending on your taste and budget.
By the Isar
The Isar river, which crosses the entire city, is basically Munich’s beach. Here you can just lie down by the water, swim, make a picnic and also bring along some beer or prosecco, something Müncheners love doing. Perfect for a romantic date, and a beautiful and relaxing way to spend time together in contact with nature.
Sit at a cafe
Munich has amazing cafes in which you can sit outside; find one of your taste and order some nice spritz or home made lemonade. Enjoy the time to sit back, watch passers by and talk.
Up in the air
If you are looking for a scenic view, an unforgettable sunset… then you must go up the Olympic Tower at the end of the day, the best time for that. It is not only beautiful, but also an ideal place to declare your love… maybe propose? I know people who did it!
Movies!
Which couple doesn’t like to go to the movies? Few. Well, going to the movies will always be something romantic to do, and even if you don’t speak German, there are some places in Munich where you can watch the original versions in English.
Ohh, so do you find this program boring? How would you like to watch a movie in a place like this?
or like this…?
These two places are not only fancy and comfy, they also serve food and champagne on your seat.
Gondola
Munich is not Venice, but it is romantic and it is also possible to take a Gondola tour. Yes, you read it right! At the Schlosspark Nymphenburg you can take a Gondola tour… and it is beautiful! Even better: it’s cheaper than in Venice. How about that for a romantic thing to do huh?
Extra!
When in Munich you can also take some romantic day trips to never forget, and here are 3 of my recommendations:
Starnbergersee
Neuschwanstein Castle
Salzburg
Any doubt that Munich is a romantic city?
