My writing process

Packing my Suitcase

Some of you might have seen around some of our blogger friends posting about their writing process, by simply replying to a few interesting questions. Invited to take part on the Writer’s Blog Tour by the wonderful writer and mother Ting Dalton of My Travel Monkey some weeks ago, I thought the idea to be very interesting and accepted her kind invitation. Thank you Ting for inviting me, it took a while but promise is a promise and here I am!

Each one of us has our own way to prepare new posts for our blogs, and here is my way…

What am I working on?

I am constantly trying to have a good mix of information here at Packing my Suitcase. Some of you probably noticed that I have sections about my expat life in Munich, Formula 1, Diving, Reviews of hotels and restaurants and so on. My decision to do that is simply because I wanted to have a little bit of everything I love that regards to traveling, and I believe I still have some more to add to this list. In the near future I plan to talk a bit more about traveling with pets, and about my dog himself, it might be an interesting topic for the pet lovers who would like to or who often take their puppies on vacation, and for the curious ones too!

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I believe that everyone have their own writing style, their favorite things to write about and their way of presenting them, so I guess that is how my work differs from others and vise-versa. I find this very nice because one can inspire the other, but in the end each one of our work is different from the other, it has our own touch in it.

Why do I write what I do?

Simply because I love it! I love traveling, and I enjoy very much sharing my experiences with someone – my readers in this case. I believe that it either helps or inspires someone when it comes to traveling plans and ideas. A very nice aspect of this is that my writings are also helpful to me, not only to remember my trips, but also tips… sometimes we do forget a few things about a certain destination, and there it is our post from last year to remind us.

How does my writing process work?

I love to plan, so I have a monthly plan for my posts and I try to follow them as deadline approach. As I normally already know what I am going to write about, I begin to think of a nice way of communicating my experience… some of the topics can be a little difficult to find inspiration, but with the majority the inspiration flows very easily.

I like to write my texts early in the morning; somehow that’s the time my mind is exploding with ideas! Of course, sometimes the inspiration comes and I just start writing, but before I publish anything, I read and re-read the text again and again. Then of course, I translate it to my Portuguese version. A bit of work I know, but I love it!

Your turn guys…

These two bloggers that will now take over the Blog Tour are constantly inspiring me in many different ways, with their writings, their amazing photography and their travels; whenever they have a new post I get a big smile on my face…

Indah Susanti from Indah’s: travel story & photography is an inspiring photographer and travel blogger. Her underwater photos are fantastic and have been published in renowned magazines, and her stories are above interesting. Indah is from Indonesia and lives in the Netherlands.

  • I love this. It’s so cool to hear about how others come up with their content that they want to distribute to the blog world. Good work! I’m just new to this whole blogging thing, but would love to email or stay in contact! (lauraheckenlively@gmail.com)

    xo from london,
    Laura

    • Hi Laura, thank you for the comment!! Glad you liked the post…yes its pretty interesting learning a bit about each blogger… each one has their own way to write and all, its nice to learn a little bit about how it works ๐Ÿ˜€ of course lets stay in touch ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Congrats on getting nominated for this!!! I was wondering when you were going to put yours up. Finally, it’s up and I enjoyed reading it ๐Ÿ˜€ I love how you say each of our writings has our own style to it. That is so true. Even if we’re writing about the same things, we have different ways of expressing them in English. Haha, you are like me, always planning the blog posts ๐Ÿ˜€ For me, when I plan I feel like I have more control over how I want my ideas to be expressed – less rush and more focus on how to end the story.

    • Thank you Mabel!!! Glad you liked what I wrote ๐Ÿ˜€
Yess, exactly! You and I think the same then… and you are right about planning the blog posts, it makes us feel like we are in control!! And for me is very important to plan, because while traveling it is more difficult to keep up with the posts, so its good to plan ahead too ๐Ÿ˜€

      • I also liked the photo you used. So much clarity in it and it makes your writing setup look very neat and simple. Just the laptop, journal and the camera to capture thoughts and photos. My writing setup always includes a snack or a block of chocolate somewhere… ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope your travels are going well. It is amazing that you can still blog while traveling. So…lots of planning! I don’t know if I can do that, maybe it will be too overwhelming for me ๐Ÿ˜€

        • Thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ yes, they are basically what I need… but my writing set up can be very messy sometimes… and chocolates are also part of it ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you!! Everything is going well… Im enjoying the sun of Turkey and the sea, diving everyday… Ive seen turtles and a huge sunken airplane ๐Ÿ˜€ well, its not easy to blog while traveling, but I try to keep up with everyone’s post and with writing my posts too… pretty hard I must say!! ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Writing process always has to start from somewhere. It can be neat at first, then messy when all the thoughts come out all over the page, and then neat again when we arrange the ideas in to a story ^^’

Enjoy yourself!!! Don’t think too much of us here, we will be there for you and your blog when you get back ๐Ÿ˜€ We hope you live in the moment, live the stories and when you’re back, tell them to us ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Perfect description of the writing process Mabel ๐Ÿ˜€

I am enjoying myself! And promise to come back with lots of stories to tell ๐Ÿ˜€ You are so sweet, thank you for your words! :*

  • What a great post. I love finding out how other bloggers write. Thank you for taking part ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you Ting!! I am happy you liked it!! You’re welcome, I am the one to thank you for thinking of me and inviting me to take part!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • It is always fascinating to hear about how others write. And special bonus this week… new blogs to read. Thank you for sharing your recommendations.

    • Glad you liked it ๐Ÿ˜€
Yess… they are two amazing bloggers, and for me already friends ๐Ÿ˜€ good reads!

  • Inspiring post…. I wish I was this organized and such a good planner in which concerns my blog.
What surprised me most was the fact that you do the translation to Portuguese yourself – I always thought it was some sort of WordPress app. Wow. Parabรฉns pela dedicaรงรฃo ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Thank you Gi!!!
Yes, planning ahead is a good idea… so you already have in mind what will your next post be about, and if you change your mind, no problem, its your blog

  • Sha

You are so disciplined. I have to make time to think of my posts and sometimes, I only do it a few hours before posting…haha…:)

    • hahaha, I guess I just like to plan! But I try to follow my plans…sometimes it works…sometimes I change my mind or something happens on the way, but normally it goes well ๐Ÿ˜€ really??? Sometime I actually wished I was a bit like you, just write and post, but Im always worried about my writing and need to read and re-read until I find I find it good to publish! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Sha

Haha, not eveything turns out well so not to worry, I wish I was disciplined as you! Lol…:)

        • hahaha ๐Ÿ˜€ and dont worry about being disciplined, write your posts the way you feel more comfortable, thats what matters ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Sha

Ahhh, but it wrecks havoc on the schedule because I do try to keep it regular but sometimes it’s just so busy at work or I would hit a mental block that I wish I was more disciplined with it…hehehe…:)

          • hahaha I understand!! With work, and the house, things are pretty busy, and of course, having a plan to follow helps a lot to organize your blog!! Let me know in case you need help with that ๐Ÿ˜€ you can start by making a list of topics you want to write about!!

  • Your blog is special and it is a great idea to include traveling with pets topic! Not many bloggers cover this part so I am sure I will get the benefits of it ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish sometimes to bring my dog Dante along but not sure how to do it…
Thank you so much for inviting me to participate <3 I accept it gladly and I feel so honored! It is so nice to know you and hope to meet you in person someday – and perhaps we can dive together ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Thank you for your kind word Indah!!! I thought of you when I decided to write about traveling with pets, Im sure Dante would love to travel with you around Europe… its much more simple than you think ๐Ÿ˜€
You’re welcome!! Now Im looking forward to reading yours, but as I said, take your time ๐Ÿ˜€
Ohhh and I would love very much to meet you in person and to dive with you!!! I guess we can arrange that sometime!!! <3

      • I will prepare the post, yes, that will be awesome to meet up!! ๐Ÿ™‚ enjoy your diving days – the wreck looks awesome! And good luck with the diving course! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Thank you Indah!! The wreck is pretty cool, I went there twice this week ๐Ÿ˜€ yesterday was too windy so we didnt dive in the afternoon…. today is a new day! I probably we start the course tomorrow or sunday if everything goes well ๐Ÿ˜€ thank you, I will need luck ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Thanks for sharing your writing process. You put in a lot of time and effort into your posts and it definitely shows. I never actually thought about planning that far ahead for my blog posts, but maybe I’ll try it and see what happens! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • You’re welcome Daniela, thank you for the lovely comment!!
hahaha planning is a good idea, of course you dont have to follow it strictly, sometimes plan do change, but its nice to have an idea what to write about ahead, so you prepare yourself better ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you for reading!

  • I feel the same!

  • Great post! I enjoyed reading it. Keep writing! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • You’re welcome Vlad!!! Thank you… Im curious to know how yours is ๐Ÿ˜€
I hope you arrived safely at home…Im guessing you are missing Portugal already!!

  • I love what you said about also writing for yourself. I’m always forgetting little things and love reading back through my blog to remind myself. It’s just like keeping an online diary ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you!! Exactly, and its good to read again and remember things we have forgotten with time! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • this post is inspiring ๐Ÿ™‚

  • If it wasn’t for reading blogs a lot I would have never started mine, I love how each blogger has their own way of expressing themselves through words.

    • Thats nice that other bloggers inspired you to start yours Yassine ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Every writer has a style, and that makes a huge difference in communicating the message. One needs to preserve one’s own style. Writing derives it’s substance from imagination and many times depends on inspiration…Writing is a form of art. It also needs both the style and the substance to signify the art. The simple combination of the style and substance needs the power of passion to redefine the boundary of writing…a lovely post and the process of writing is really fascinating…happy writing!!!

    • Thank you for your lovely comment Nihar! I couldn’t agree more with you… our own style is what makes each one of us unique, and I love that! Happy writing to you too ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Yes, we all have our own unique style, that is what makes us different. Writing makes us evolve as a person…thank you for your nice perspective.

  • i like your story,,,
