What’s up in September!

Packing My Suitcase

The month of September promises to be busy around here, apart from the new look of the blog, this month I have a few trips planned. Some of you might have noticed the countdowns on my side bar for a while, some probably didn’t, in any case here is my September itinerary:

From the 5th to the 7th I will be attending another Formula 1 race, this time in the famous Monza circuit, which is only a few kilometers away from Milan, where I will be staying and exploring!

Packing my Suitcase going to Milan

On the 20th I will be flying to Turkey, where I will stay 3 days in Istanbul, then 9 days in a little town in the Turkish Riviera called Kaş, where I will be diving and attempting to get my Advanced Open Water certification, fingers crossed! I will be back on October 1st, but I promise to keep you updated during my travels.

Packing my Suitcase from Munich to Istanbul

Packing my Suitcase from Istanbul to Kas

Any tips for these places are very much appreciated! Anyone?

And if you feel like knowing every step of my trips, you can do so by following Packing my Suitcase on:

I wish all of you an amazing start of September! Stay tuned for the upcoming posts and happy travels!

  • Sounds great, have fun! 😀

    • Thank you Vlad!! 😀

      • I forgot to mention I LOVE the new look of the blog! 😀 Have you designed the banner yourself?

        • Thank you Vlad hahaha happy that you liked it!! No, it wasnt me, it was a blogger friend of mine, from the blog Cheeks and Heels 😀 she also did the old one too!!

  • How exciting! I’ve always wanted to visit Istanbul so I’m really excited to hear what you think of it!! Safe travels 🙂

    • Thank you Justine 😀 I hope you enjoy what I will have to tell about Istanbul and that you can also make it there soon 🙂

  • I just loved the new look of the blog. Boas viagens 🙂

  • how exciting! Istanbul is awesome – DONT MISS the cistern

  • Kas should be amazing!! Are the wrecks there?
Will you stay at all in Istanbul?
I should be in that part of the Med in the second part of Sep, but probably on the Greek side.
    Have fun with your travels!!

    • Hi Miia, yess the wrecks are there 😀 which is a great thing for us since we want to do the special course on wreck diving!! Im really excited about it! And yes, we are staying 3 days in Istanbul 😀 thank youuu, I also with you fun travels on the Greek side!!

      • Will you take underwater photos? Waiting for them 🙂

        • Yeeeess I will 😀 I will have my Go Pro with me and promise to take lots of underwater photos 😀

          • Cool! I don’t have a Go Pro and I feel so out of fashion 😉

          • Noo dont worry about it, I bought my recently and still need to learn to take good pictures with it hahaha 😀

  • Oups, sorry you said that you will spend 3 days in Istanbul –I was not paying attention 🙁

It is such a wonderful city! Where will you stay?

    • hahaha dont worry 😀 just details! We will stay in a hotel close to the Taksim Square, in the Cihangir area 😀 I am very excited to finally visit Istanbul! Any tips?

      • I like the older part on the other side of the bridge (Sultanahmet etc). Apart from the obvious sites, there are also some very beautiful byzantine churches and an interesting atmosphere in Fatih, Fener and Balat, but not sure you have time to explore these areas…

A bit touristic but so beautiful inside is PANDELI restaurant at the Spice Market. Also, SEFA restaurant (cantine) in Cagaloglu is where my Turkish friend has taken me for a quick, good lunch. I haven’t been since few years but I love those simple cantines that offer homemade dishes!!!

Luck you! Have a great trip!!

        • Ohhh thank you so much for the tips Miia!! I love the restaurant recommendations, I also love those cantines 😀 I will try to go to this one your friend took you!! And for sure I will be around Sultanahmet 😀 thank you, thank you and have fun in Greece 🙂

          • PS I haven’t forgotten the award post but my thoughts have been elsewhere. Will do it, just don’t know when…

          • Miia dont worry about it!! I also have some posts about awards that I havent posted yet… I have a lot going here as well, so take your time 😀 and if you dont want to do it its also totally fine 😀

          • No, no, I will, but I haven’t been feeling very well and don’t have energy to do a lot…. 🙁 I am just about following all of these social medias and responding to comments 🙂

          • Ohh no, I hope you feel well soon!! Cheer up girl!! 😀

          • One more remark about Istanbul: I am sure you have excellent Turkish food in Germany (right?) so you probably know it quite well, but I just wanted to add that the white aubergine puree at SEFA is about the best I have ever had (but this was some years ago, so never know). Its name is “Sultan” something.. The guys probably won’t speak English but juts point out to the dishes you want to taste 🙂 Oh, I saw that the resto is now in the LP. Well, you will tell me if it has become touristic!!

About PANDELI: even if you may not eat there, walk upstairs (entrance is from the spice market) and have a look. Its very beautiful with those blue tiles. You can always pretend to ask to see the menu etc 😉 It is an old school “brasserie” type resto with a soul, and some windows give to the market.

Lastly, I have a friend whose family owns a hotel in Istanbul (Sultanahmet). One of the brothers, Mike (Turkish), is the pr guy of the family and he is very bohemian. He either loves or hates ppl, but in most cases he is very friendly and takes ppl around in Sultanahmet and to lunch. If you are up to it, you could go to the reception of KYBELE hotel (Yerebatan caddesi, a 10 min walk from the Hagia Sofia) and ask if Mike is downstairs. Go and say hello, send greetings from me. It may take him a while to remember me (last time we met in 2007) but say I am the Finnish girl who lives in Paris and once spent 2 months at his hotel 😉

Have fun –I so miss Istanbul!

          • hahahaaha oh my God thank you for the tips 😀 I will try to do everything if I find the time , I promise! And did you live 2 months at a hotel in Istanbul? How cool hahaha were you working there? 😀 Im so curious! And I loved the idea of the Pandeli restaurant, I will for sure take a look at it 😀 thank you again for finding the time to tell me all of that, you rock 😀

          • Hey, I was in between jobs (it was just after 9-11) so I went to Istanbul for one week and liked it so much that I stayed for almost two months 😉 It was very interesting to be in Turkey when the US begun the war against the terrorism.. Then I got a job and moved on. At one point, a few years later, the company I worked for had a regional office in Istanbul so I got to go there for work, too.

          • How awesome!!! I must have been an amazing experience… you have lived everywhere and never ceases to amaze me 😀

          • Haha. I only reveal a tip of the iceberg 😉 And use some censorship 🙂 (kidding!!)

          • hahahaahaha and also makes me laugh 😀

  • When in Kas, take the boat to the Greek island of Kastellorizo. It’s very beautiful and just a stone’s throw away from Kas.
    Happy travels!

    • Thank you Vasilis, thats exactly what I am planning to do… do you know any good company to do this boat trip? Happy travels to you too 🙂

      • I will ask my sister. She happens to be in Kastellorizo as we speak. 🙂

        • hahaha really? What a coincidence, thats perfect! Thank you so much 😀

          • She told me that there are only two daily scheduled departures connecting Kas and Kastellorizo. Both boats return on the same day. When in Kastellorizo, you can either choose to stay in the town or get a little boat to the Blue Caves. They are one of the main Kastellorizo attractions.

          • Awnn you are awesome!! Thank you so much for that, it will help a lot!! Thank your sister for me too 😀 I will for sure do this trip!

          • My pleasure! Happy travels!! 🙂

          • Thank you 😀 Happy travels to you too!!!

  • I haven’t been to any of those places (yet!) but they all sound amazing and you’ll have a brilliant time 🙂

    • Thank you Ayla 😀 I also haven’t been to any of them, and Im really excited about it!!

  • Sha

    • Heeey Sha thats awesome!!! Then I already wish you happy travels in October 😀 where are you going? 🙂

  • Slightly jealous that you’re going to watch the F1!

    • You like it too?? Thats great to know 😀 not so many girls like it, me on the other side love it, I am a fan since I was a kid 😀 have you ever been to F1 Race?

      • No I haven’t. Would love to though. I could do Silverstone as it’s not too far from me but would love to go to one of the ones abroad! Any of them really.

        • Ohhh Silverstone is supposed to be awesome, but it is also one of the most expensive ones together with Monaco!
But of course in Europe you have amazing options! I hope you go sometime 😀

  • Ooh, nice trips! Looking forward to reading all about them! And the food 🙂

  • Sounds like a pretty spectacular September 🙂 Have a fabulous time!!! Can’t wait to read all about it!

  • Have fun!! It sounds it will be a busy yet great holiday 😉

    • Thank you Indah 😀 I am very exited, especially for Turkey and the beach 🙂

      • Turkey is always lovely to visit, I am sure you will enjoy it 🙂

        • 😀 Can’t wait… also I cant wait to go diving again!!

          • Lucky you!! Advance course is usually fun and easy (of course it will depend on the instructor). I am sure you will enjoy it 😉

          • 😀 I hope so!! My problem is with navigation, I still need to learn working with the compass hahaha hopefully it will go well, I have to confess Im nervous 😀

          • That’s my weakness too..I tell you a secret how to help: remember any unique corals on your way, so you can always return 😉 You will have so much fun! Looking forward to hear your story!!

          • Thats a great tip Indah!! I will focus on the corals then 😀 I will think of you when Im doing the course haha! Thank you!!

  • I hope you will enjoy your holidays ! I’ve never been there, can’t help

  • Oooh Istanbul is such a fantastic city with sooo much to see and do. You’ll really be running for 3 days to see it all. 😉 We had a full week and barely did half of what we wanted to do! Make sure you eat some baklava and turkish delight in Istanbul – normally I find it too sweet, but in Istanbul it was divine – full of pistachios and totally addictive. 😀 Also head underground to the Basilica Cistern and look for the upside Medusa’s head, after visiting the Hagia Sophia – even though it’s close by, a lot of people skip it… a nice place to cool off. Enjoy!!

    • Thank you sooooo much for the tips Shelley!! Yes I know, 3 days is nothing 🙁 I will try to see as much as I can! The Basilica and the Hagia Sophia are on my itinerary for sure, but I didnt know about the Medusa’s head, I have to see this! And I will for sure try all the food I can, I like baklava, even though I also find it too sweet, but I will try in Istanbul 😀 thank you again for the tips!!

  • Looks like your September is going to be busy… and fun! I won’t be going away this month but I do have plans to visit a wine festival here in Germany 🙂

    • Yes it will 😀 I need some vacation I guess haha. A wine festival here in Germany? That sounds amazing…where is it? when? 😀

  • Safe travels dear Allane!! Looking forward to all the updates!!!

  • Have a great trip!

  • I wish you a great time and look forward to reading about your “adventures” ! Stay well, stay safe.

  • Sounds like a great month to come! I have a post coming up later this week on things to see in Sultanahmet in Istanbul which might be useful! Monza sounds fab too, I’ve been to a couple of GPs but that’s one on the list for next time.

    • Really Lucy? That is great to know!! I will stay tuned and read your post, of course it will be very useful, thank you for letting me know 😀 and Im impressed that you already to went to GP’s, where did you go? 🙂

      • Should be up on Thursday so hope it helps. I’ve not been to a GP for a while but went to Imola, Melbourne and Turkey in the past – still not made it the British one yet though despite it being close to home!

        • Wowww, thats amazing!! Well, then I guess its time for you to go to Silverstone 😀

  • Kan

I love the new look! Whoever does the caricatures for your banner picture is really talented! Wow… September sounds like an exciting month for you. Enjoy the race and the diving… Looking forward to your posts on those 🙂

Yes September is going to be a very exciting month 😀

  • Jenny Trozell

Funny, I will be in Istanbul 18-22 September 🙂 It will be my third time in Istanbul. It is actually one of my favorite cities! I have also been in Kas and loved it. I have a Turkey folder if you want my view, however Turkey was the first country I covered in this blog so I was not sure how to approach blogging at that time. I think I have improved 😉 Happy travels, maybe we bump in to eachother! http://ynnej1976.wordpress.com/category/turkey/ And ps. I also read your blog in Portuguese but I am just a beginner so it is quite hard. But I understand the context.

    • Are you serious? How awesome hahaha yesss maybe we will bump into each other, if I had more time in the city I would invite you for a coffee so we could talk 😀 I will for sure take a look at your posts, Im sure it will help me!! I am very excited to visit both cities, Im literally counting the days, everyone only say great things about these places.

Im very happy that you like my blog in Portuguese too…in the beginning is hard, but then you will get better 😀 Im glad I can help you learn more Portuguese 😀
Safe travels to you too and maybe we will see each other somewhere in Istanbul 😀

      • Jenny Trozell

  • Oh no! I wrote you a huge list with all my recommendations and as I posted the comment it disappeared forever!! 🙁
So this is my second attempt:
Bars where the Aperitivo is not to miss (I guess you have already discovered the Aperitivo in Milan, which is a sort of Happy Hour with lots of delicious food!): Noon, Iguana, Sheraton Diana, but also the Rinascente Rooftop-Bar with a great view in the Duomo.
For an evening stroll go to the Navigli area or Corso Sempione – that’s where all the Milanese meet for a drink.
When in Corso Sempione go to Jazz Cafe for Dinner – great food and when the music gets louder it transforms into a fun disco-bar. You can also just go for the bar.
That’s the “basics” … I might write a blog post on my travel tips for Milan! 😉
Looking forward to reading how/if you liked it.

    • Ohhhh nooo, sorry 🙁 thank you so much for the tips, I will for sure save them for next time!! I wish I had them before… some things in Milan didnt go as well as planned ahaha but I had such short time in the city, I wish I had spent more time there!! But know that I thought of you while I was there 😀 and do write a post with tips for Milan, that is a great idea!!!

      • So sorry I was too late! And to hear that Milan was not as good as planned! 🙁 I am on the road myself right now, in Greece, that’s why it took me some time.
I will definitely write something on Milan, for your next and more extensive trip!! 😉

        • Don’t worry 😀 thank you so much for thinking of me! wooow, Greece!! I was dying to go there these days, but I guess I will have to wait until next summer! I hope you have lots of fun there and enjoy the sun! Yes do write about Milan, nothing like tips from someone who lived there, it makes everything much easier 😀 Ciao!!

  • September is always a busy month!~

    • Yes!! Its also a nice month to travel, especially here in Europe, when everyone is coming home from summer vacation.. perfect time to travel 🙂

      • I’d love to get to Europe in the fall! I bet there are a lot less tourists!

        • Ohh yess, fall is the perfect time to visit Europe, apart from having less tourists, things are cheaper and in my opinion is the most beautiful season of the year 😀
