About me

I am a Brazilian girl who was born with the love for traveling, and discovering the World. I have lived in 5 countries, learned 5 languages, and after falling in love with a German, moved to the lovely city of Munich and have been struggling to learn German ever since.

My heart is not only filled with traveling, but also with family and friends, my dog, my earliest passions: Formula 1 and diving, my respect for animals, my love for food and wine, my craziness for making lists and addiction to planning. And this is what Packing my Suitcase is all about, everything that’s in my heart, what I have seen on my travels and what I have learned from them, plus a little bit of my life in Germany.

I have always believed that no one can take your knowledge away from you, it is always there in your mind, wherever you go. While on the other hand, material things cannot be taken with you to your next life. Traveling is my school, is the best way I found to learn… to learn about other places, countries, cultures, and people; and you would never believe what it is out there until you see it.

Welcome to Packing my Suitcase, I hope you feel at home as we discover this world together, on the surface and underwater.

You have a very nice way of writing and I look forward to follow your adventures. I am happy to see that you also have a Portuguese version. I am trying to learn Portuguese so a good way could be to first read the English version and then the Portuguese 😀 To practice! I am just a beginner…

          • Thank you very much Jenny, I am very happy to know you like my writing style! How exciting that you are learning Portuguese 😀 may I ask why? Well I guess you will enjoy reading the post in Portuguese, its very easy to understand 😀 I hope you have fun!! Boa sorte com seu Português 😀

          • Jenny Trozell

I am in love with the language 🙂 Especially Brazilian Portuguese..I listen to a lot of music sung in Portuguese like Kizomba…I used to dance samba as well 🙂

          • How nice!!! Ohh wow you danced Samba? I confess Im Brazilian but never learned hahaha I know, its a shame! I hope you learn Portuguese and go to Brazil sometime, you will love it 😀

          • hahaha Hey Amanda, thank you for stopping by! I am very happy to know you enjoy my blog and that is inspires you to travel 😀

And you’re welcome. I guess we are in the same situation, I am also still learning to deal with this Twitter thing… one step everyday hahaha

  • hello there allane! 🙂 thanks so much for the visit and following my blog 🙂 I saw the list of countries you have been and I am so inspired by it 🙂 keep that wanderlust fire burning! 😉

    • Hi Karen, you’re welcome 🙂 Im very happy my travels have inspired you!! You too travel a lot… this World is amazing and Im never going to get tired of it 😀

  • Hi! Yes, I agree, it’s hard to say goodbye… even though I’ve learnt as well that some times, it is not a ‘good bye’ but ‘see you next time’ (in a different place!). I have also lived in foreign countries – Sweden and France. Nice blog!

    • You are right!! Well, some people we never see again, even though we try…and its this uncertainty that makes goodbyes so hard! Wow how nice that you liked in Sweden and France! Which cities did you live? 😀

      • Yes, that’s true that sometimes we never see again the people we meet, and that’s hard… I lived in Gothenburg and Toulouse, very nice cities 🙂 did you live in Paris before?

        • How nice, it must have been amazing experiences for you 😀 yes I lived in Paris for a short time, it was nice, but I dont think I would live there again…its an amazing city to visit but I dont find it nice to live. 😀

          • I got the same feeling about Paris… I went twice, I liked it for visiting, but for living I prefer smaller cities 🙂

          • Exactly!! I think is too chaotic to live there haha 😀

  • Tim

Love the new drawing at the top of the blog.

  • Hi Allane, What a gorgeous name! What does it mean? You’re doing quite well, racking up languages and countries… and though I’ve not been to Munich yet, I absolutely loved all the culture, sights and vibe in Berlin. Thanks for introducing me to your blog and to your stories.. and thank you too for dropping by (and following) my blog. I’ve been busy with much other than writing these past few weeks, but hope to resume my regular writing again (oh, how I miss it!) when I’m back in Bali 😉

    • Hi Amit!! Thank you 🙂 I honestly don’t know what my name means, my mom probably made it up hahaha.
Ohhh you have to visit Munich, but I must tell it is very different than Berlin… but Im sure you will like it too, I love it here 😀
Thank you for stopping by too and for the lovely message, I hope you resume writing again!! Ohh I wish I could go soon to Bali too 🙂

  • Love your story and also relate to the keeping diaries to retain memories. My philosphy nowadsys is to invest time & money in memorable experiences – those that are different, unique or what the hell let’s do it – that way the memories last longer because if you keep doing the same old things your brain won’t be able to recall one day from another, or one year from another……

    • Thank you for your kind words!!
I completely agree with your philosophy… my entire life I wanted to invest my money on traveling, because material things people can take away form you, but not your knowledge and experience, so traveling has always been an investment to me 😀

  • Hey Allane, you look so young and yet you achieved so much! A great description. Keep it going like that, the experience of 10 years in writing is clearly visible in your entries! 🙂 Liebe Grüße, Ben

    • Thank you so much for the lovely comment Ben!! I still have a lot to learn and to discover… I believe we all do, and that is a great thing in life.
      Liebe Grüße 🙂

      • Yes if you see it like that, that’s actually the best part about life! Take care, viele liebe Grüße!

  • Lovely blog! Nice to meet you. Ostriche

  • Hi
Very cool blog; well crafted and I had kind of the same idea about writing past trips to start an expat blog because we haven’t yet made it to our destination. I got laid off unexpectedly and we’re retiring early; I plan on reading lots of your posts and hope you’ll check us out at http://www.experimentalexpats.com
    Rob and Diane

    • Hi Rob and Diane!

  • Hi Allane, I nominated you to share your taste of travel menu, read about it here: http://anewlifewandering.com/2014/12/01/my-ideal-taste-of-travel-menu/

  • Estou muito contenta de te leer 🙂

  • Hi
Thanks for the follow !!! Enjoy your travels !!

  • Thanks for following my blog. I am looking forward to a good read through yours. Castles, diving and the many adventures to places I have not yet been. Great!

  • Touché Guimarães

    hi Allane,

we do share your passion for travelling. And we also think that Susan Sontag expressed it beautifully in the sentence you’ve quoted “I haven’t been everywhere, but everywhere is on my list”.

may we suggest that you mention her as the author? we can’t take it for granted that most people know it…even the ‘real’ tourists like us.

many thanks for your comment on my post on Brasil com Z. It will be a pleasure to keep in touch with you.

    happy xmas,

    • Hi Touché 🙂

Thank you so much for the comment!! Of course I gladly mention the author’s name, until today I had no idea who said these words that I like so much 😀

Merry Christmas to you too and I will look forward to keep in touch 😀

  • hi Allen, really cool your blog. btw, u can 5 language?, Proud of you.

    • Hi 🙂 thank you so much, Im happy that you like my blog!!
      Yes, I do speak 5 languages 😀
I hope you come back more often 🙂
      Happy new year!

  • Touché Guimarães

    hi Allen,

sometimes don’t you feel like a troglodite when people get to know you’re a polyglot? I do.

    • hahahaha 😀
For me speaking 5 languages became something normal, so when people get impressed with this I stop and think how much effort and how long it took me to get here, so I appreciate once more for speaking 5 languages. 😀
      Which languages do you speak?

  • Touché Guimarães

I don’t know…Allen. Is is only a result of effort made? I teach languages and tell you: many intelligent people strive to overcome the difficulties learning another idiom brings and still they don’t manage. I think we’re lucky: we’ve made the effort but, most of all, we’ve got the talent for it!

    • Yes, you are right, talent counts a lot too. My sisters for example, never really liked to speak other languages, even though the studied English. I always had this thing for languages, I am curious about them and I think I still would like to learn another one 😀
And its true that many people have more difficulties than others. And as you said, we are lucky 😀

  • Kat

Hi Allane – I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award 🙂 Should you wish to accept, please click on the link https://katpegimana.wordpress.com/2015/01/11/very-inspiring-blogger-award/

Love your blog and you’re awesome!

    Cheers – Kat

  • Hi Allane! I love your blog. The drawing is beautiful. Did you make it? I also like the quotes that you have. The travel quote reminds me of this one,” You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” I look forward to reading more of your posts!

    • Thank you so much for stopping by and for the follow!!
The drawing was a friend of mine 😀

This quote is amazing, I haven’t heard it before… I totally agree with all of it 😀

I am looking forward to keeping in touch with you!!
      Thank you!

    • Oh, I’ve always loved that quote, its just so true!!!

  • Oi! Hello! Thank you for following my blog and thus making me come check yours! From what little I’ve seen its awesome! Also, how do you find the time/inspiration to write your posts in two languages!? Being multilingual myself I’ve been asked by quite a few people to write my posts in Portuguese or Spanish as well… and I just can’t!!

    • Hi 😀 thank you! I am happy that you like my blog… welcome!

Ohhh I have to say it was very stressful in the beginning having to write in 2 languages, but I got used to it with time. I write my posts in English first, than I write on my mother tongue, weird I know 😀 but it is true that it is time consuming!

      • You are welcome. As for the languages I was hoping you’d give me a magic spell or something 🙂 Sigh… Now I might give it a try the old fashioned way but I don’t know….

        • hahaha sorry!! I wish there was a spell, I would have to work 50% less 😀 but unfortunately the best way is still the old one! I hope you do it! I find it worth it 😉

          • I think I’ll try it in the near future, i.e. once I settle down in China…

          • Sounds great!! How long do you live in China already?

          • I lived there for a year in 2013, then had to come to Chile for personal reasons and I’m now going back for another year 🙂

          • How awesome!!! I have never been to Chile before, but I has been on my list since I was still living in Brazil! I hope to make it the sometime soon 😀

          • Chile with its versatile geography is absolutely gorgeous. Yes, I’m biased but its true!!! So yes, you should def go sometime 🙂

          • hahaha 😉 I hope I do!! In one of these times I visit Brazil I will take sometime to go there, finally!

  • You have a wonderful blog – this is what I was thinking I would do when I started mine but work, travel and life got in the way! I still would love to inspire people to travel through my experiences but I’m sadly not making much progress! Well done to you!

    • Awnnnn don’t say that, just keep trying!! Sometimes we have no idea how much our photos or simple posts make a difference in someone’s life 😉
Just keep writing and posting…. the results you will see with time 😉

  • Hello! Don’t know how you feel about awards but I just nominated you for the versatile blogger award. You can go check my post on it to learn the rules 🙂

    • Thank you so much for thinking of me dear!! 😀 it means a lot!! I have received this award before, but I really appreciate your nomination 😀

  • Hi Allane, have found your travel blog via Hanne from People Places Stories and Gin from darwinonrocks. Am very interested to read about your travels even more so as we’re visiting Munich in April so will read up on your posts from there! I started my little blog, Le Chic En Rose, last year as I had collated so many photos and stories from my travels and was being asked by friends for advice so thought it would be a good way to record everything. Then I thought I might as well write about my adopted home of Perth Western Australia to throw into the mix and it’s sort of gone from there. It’s just a part time hobby for me but one that I’m really enjoying! Anyway will look forward to reading more of your posts, very best wishes Rosemary 🙂

    • Thank you so much for the lovely comment Rosemary! Welcome to my blog 😀 I hope you like it!
That is awesome that you are coming to Munich in April!! I hope you find lots of useful posts around my blog, and if you need some extra tips do not hesitate to contact me.
I will surely stop by your blog <3 I am always happy to meet new fellow bloggers from around the World!
Thank you so much for stopping by, I appreciate it… and hope we keep in touch!

  • Hey Allane. I have some questions about your use of wordpress. Is it possible to get in touch with you somehow? 🙂 I always see your posts on my wp reader since I’m following you.
But it seems like your posts looks different than mine. Could you give me any advice or tips?

    • Hi Marie!!! Ohh really? I am not doing anything is special, but do feel free to contact me via email. You just need to go to my Contact section of the blog and write in the form, it will go directly to my email 😀
      I would love to help!!

  • Found your blog through WiseMonkeys and so glad I did. Really like the drawing on your header. Very arty and talented 🙂

    • Thank you!! Im happy that you found me too 😀 thank you so much for stopping by!!
A friend of mine designed the header 😉

  • Laia

Hi Allane! I have nominated you for a Liebster award:
Going through the comments I have seen that you had already received some awards, if you do not have time to write about another one is not a problem, it is just to let you know I enjoy your blog 🙂
    Have a nice weekend!

    • Thank you so much dear Laia 😀
I am thrilled to know that you enjoy my blog, it makes me really happy to know that!!
As I have received the award before, I don’t plan on writing again. But I will stop by your blog 😀 thank you so much!!

  • Awwnnn thank you so much Angela!! I appreciate your words and I am very happy to know that!
I hope to meet you sometime around here in Munich. Let me know when you come 😀

  • Hi Jennifer!! Thank you!!
And thank you for stopping by 😀

  • Awnnn thank you so much Indah!! It’s so nice of you to say that. I really hope it won’t be long until we meet in person, and I am sure Enzzo and Dante would have a lot of fun together, I can already imagine it 😀
Amsterdam is on my plans for next year, and I will try to visit you 😀
You too take care and keep writing and posting amazing photos!

  • Yes, I do hope to visit Rotterdam too, and the Hague 😀
Ohh really?? Ohh no, you can’t leave Europe! Where are you going if I may ask?

And I would be sooooo happy to have you here in Munich! I would love to visit the Christmas Markets with you. 😀 I hope it works out!! 😀 <3

  • Oiii Angela tudo bem? 😀
Fico feliz que tenha gostado! Volte mais vezes!

  • Hi Anna!! Thank you so much, I am happy to know that. You are always welcome here 😀

  • Thank you Rosie 😀
That’s interesting! I will keep that in mind, certainly. I am an animal lover, and have a dog who often travels with me, so I do have some tales 😀
    Thank you for the invite!!

  • Yess, definitely!! 😀

    Have a wonderful week!
